Giornata Internazionale dello yoga, quali benefici porta questa pratica?

Il 21 giugno si celebrerà la Terza Giornata internazionale dello yoga promossa dall’Onu, e per l’occasione l’Ambasciata dell’India a Roma promuoverà un lungo evento della durata di 9 giorni, con tante iniziative in calendario dal 17 al 25 giugno.

In programma ci sono diverse sessioni in tutta Italia, seminari e workshop per far conoscere le pratiche dello yoga così come i suoi benefici e quelli dell’Ayurveda e di altre medicine tradizionali anche a chi non ha mai praticato tale attività.

A partire dal 17 giugno, anche l’Ambasciata, in collaborazione con numerose scuole di yoga, aprirà le sue porte sia agli appassionati sia a principianti e curiosi, offrendo uno spazio per imparare a praticare insieme a maestri di yoga e di meditazione.

Sempre a Roma, il 20 giugno, dopo un appuntamento alla Fao, una vasta sessione aperta sarà tenuta all’Auditorium Parco della Musica.

Un’iniziativa, afferma l’Ambasciata che ha oggi presentato l’evento, che “si spera possa creare non solo una maggiore consapevolezza sui benefici dello Yoga e della meditazione, ma possa anche favorire l’adozione di atteggiamenti più olistici nella vita, infondendo equilibrio tra attività terrene e spirituali”.

Tanti sono i benefici fisici di questa pratica, confermati da studi scientifici: lo yoga migliora l’elasticità muscolare e l’equilibrio, rieduca la colonna vertebrale ed è molto utile per alleviare i dolori alla cervicale, la circolazione è agevolata e il sistema immunitario viene rinforzato.

Senza dimenticare che è una disciplina psicofisica: l’integrazione fra mente e corpo, che è alla base dello yoga, aiuta a superare i blocchi legati all’emotività.

Un recente studio del Centro statunitense per la Medicina Alternativa e Complementare di Bethesda, in Maryland, ha inoltre evidenziato che la pratica della disciplina è associata alla comparsa di nuovi neuroni, come dimostra l’aumento di volume della materia grigia in alcune aree chiave del cervello.

Lo Yoga, secondo una revisione di studi pubblicata su Frontiers in Psychiatry, produrrebbe inoltre effetti benefici anche sui principali disturbi psichiatrici, con effetti positivi sui sintomi della depressione, i disturbi del sonno, l’ADHD e la schizofrenia.
