I consigli del pediatra e dell’ortopedico su sport e vacanze

Meno compiti e più sport, meglio ancora se all’aria aperta e insieme ai coetanei.

Il pediatra Italo Farnetani, ordinario alla Libera Università Ludes di Malta, si è espresso su come sfruttare al meglio le vacanze dopo la chiusura delle scuole: “I compiti sono un controsenso psicopedagogico e medico. Il bambino ha studiato tutto l’anno e si deve riposare e l’arrivo del caldo sottopone a un ulteriore stress l’organismo. Inoltre stare sui libri durante l’estate è diseducativo perché i bambini sono svogliati e perdono la grinta. Per questo di fronte ai compiti assegnati invito i genitori alla ‘disobbedienza civile'”.

“Al contrario – sottolinea il pediatra – è importante sfruttare le vacanze per imparare nuove cose, che non sono solo quelle scritte sui libri, insieme ai propri coetanei. Il rischio è quello di giornate troppo sedentarie – osserva Farnetani – Per questo invece dei compiti la scuola dovrebbe promuovere l’attività fisica in vacanza e assegnare esercizi di educazione motoria: almeno un’ora al giorno”.

Promossi anche i campi estivi, che non siano però “un duplicato della ricreazione invernale: niente collage o gare di pennarello né giochi da tavola – sottolinea – ma sport all’aperto, equitazione, bicicletta, calcio e pallavolo, oltre al nuoto anche in spiaggia per combattere l’obesità”.

Via libera a nuoto, mini-basket, pallavolo, ginnastica artistica e nuoto sincronizzato, sì anche al calcio ma con qualche riserva, “mentre bisogna fare molta attenzione tra i 6 e i 10 anni a sport come il tennis o l’equitazione”.

A stilare la classifica degli sport promossi, rimandati e bocciati da praticare al centro estivo o al campus è Sandro Rossetti, primario all’ospedale San Camillo di Roma, specialista in ortopedia e traumatologia. Con la fine della scuola molti bimbi italiani hanno in programma periodi di allenamento al centro estivo o nei campus dedicati allo sport. “Un’iniziativa valida, a patto di scegliere un’attività fisica davvero adatta al fisico del bambino, in fase di sviluppo”

Da preferire “le attività che consentono uno sviluppo armonico di tutti e quattro gli arti: quindi il nuoto, il mini-basket, la pallavolo, il beach volley, il nuoto sincronizzato e la ginnastica artistica – elenca Rossetti – Attenzione al calcio: sono privilegiati gli arti inferiori, ma se questa attività fisica si pratica in un centro sportivo adeguato, l’allenamento sarà sempre accompagnato da un’attività preparatoria su tutto il fisico. Ecco dunque che occorre tenere conto di questo aspetto nella scelta dello sport. E’ bene poi fare molta attenzione al tennis, che eviterei a questa età, a meno che non sia fatto in un centro sportivo che curi moltissimo l’allenamento fisico in generale. Il tennis infatti – ricorda l’esperto – sviluppa un solo arto e ‘pesa’ molto sulla colonna in fase di crescita: è dunque fondamentale praticare un regime di allenamento mirato, che compensi gli squilibri legati alla passione per la racchetta”.

Attenzione all’equitazione “Ci sono genitori che mettono sul cavallo bimbi di 6-7 anni, ma io sono convinto che sia troppo presto – avverte l’ortopedico – Anche in questo caso, se non si fa un allenamento mirato sui muscoli para-vertebrali, si tratta di uno sport è controindicato a questa età”. Per Rossetti, comunque, “nella scelta dell’attività più giusta per l’età del bambino la cosa migliore è rispettare le peculiarità fisiche del piccolo, le sue inclinazioni, e soprattutto chiedere consiglio al pediatra o al medico dello sport”. Senza avere troppa fretta e tenendo conto del fatto che l’organismo è in fase di sviluppo. “Poi, a 11-12 anni, se la struttura fisica è già impostata e sviluppata, si potrà ampliare la scelta”.

Attenzione a prevenire traumi e lesioni. “Si tratta di problemi diversi rispetto a quelli degli adulti, che in questi casi incappano sovente in distorsioni. I bambini hanno un’elasticità che non hanno invece gli adulti: in caso di trauma infatti i piccoli sono più a rischio di fratture, non di distorsioni”, ammonisce Rossetti. Alla fin fine il suggerimento dell’esperto è quello di approfittare dell’estate per fare sport, “seguendo i consigli del pediatra e i desideri del bambino, non quelli dei genitori”.
