Proteine in polvere, i pro e i contro

In America ma anche in Europa, le proteine in polvere sono sempre più utilizzate.

Anziani che mangiano poco, adolescenti in crescita che devono formare muscoli ed ossa, atleti, gente normale sempre di corsa e in cerca di energia e malati oncologici.

Di fronte al incremento delle vendite delle proteine in polvere, alcuni esperti statunitensi hanno cercato di recente di valutarne i pro e contro con i media Usa.

“Le proteine – hanno sottolineato – sono necessarie a guarire l’organismo, rimetterlo in forza, aiutare non solo i muscoli ma anche le ossa e le cartilagini. Sia dopo procedure mediche,chirurgiche o radiazioni, sia per gli atleti.”

Tra i “pro”, la specialista di oncologia e nutrizionista dell’Università della Virginia, Carole Havrila, cita i benefici per chi è avanti con gli anni.

”Gli anziani – ha spiegato – sono una parte della popolazione che perde muscolatura, ha poco appetito e diventa piu’ fragile. Per loro quindi le bevande alle proteine sono piu’ facili da ingerire e necessarie”.

Per Roberta Mohning, dietologa e nutrizionista di Washington, un altro punto a favore è anche il loro uso per vegetariani e vegani che spesso non assumono abbastanza proteine all’interno della propria dieta.

Altre categorie come adolescenti in rapida crescita e atleti, ha aggiunto ancora Havrila, possono beneficiare dagli shake proteici per sostenere il loro organismo sottoposto a stress particolari.

Tra i “contro” per Rebecca Mohning, ”E’ assolutamente meglio assumere proteine dai cibi integrali”.

Gli alimenti naturali sono infatti ricchi di fibre, di sostanze che aiutano la digestione, di vitamine per il sistema immunitario.

Insomma hanno un insieme di elementi benefici e non si concentrano in particolare su di un composto come le proteine.

Gli shake alle proteine inoltre sono liquidi e non danno un immediato senso di sazietà.

A sottolineare i rischi sulla dubbia qualità dei prodotti confezionati è Havrila: in Usa, la Food and drug administration non sottopone infatti ad analisi gli integratori dietetici come invece fa per quelli farmaceutici.

In alcuni casi sono state trovate tracce di metalli, caffeina e steroidi all’interno delle polveri proteiche, inoltre il loro contenuto di zuccheri o zuccheri da alcol non è sempre chiaro.

Il consiglio degli esperti dunque è se si vogliono provare gli shake proteici, scegliere sempre una marca garantita anche se più costosa.
