Uno studio dell’Università di Leuven (Belgio) e di quella Michigan (USA) ha rivelato che la visione compulsiva di serie tv danneggia il sonno, ne peggiora la qualità e aumenta il senso di affaticamento e l’insonnia.

La causa sarebbe il senso di allerta cognitiva provocato dalle maratone televisive, il cervello rimarrebbe infatti attivo a lungo.

I ricercatori hanno preso in esame 423 giovani, di età compresa tra 18 e 25 anni, il 74% per cento dei quali erano studenti. È stato chiesto loro di rispondere a un questionario online, ne è emerso che l’80% dei partecipanti erano spettatori compulsivi, con il 20,2% che affermava di esserlo stato almeno un paio di volte alla settimana nel mese precedente.

Gli amanti delle maratone televisive hanno riportato più stanchezza e sintomi di insonnia, scarsa qualità del sonno e un maggior senso di allerta prima di andare a dormire. Avevano inoltre un 98% in più di probabilità di avere una qualità del sonno peggiore rispetto a chi la tv la guardava moderatamente.

Ai fanatici delle serie, i ricercatori consigliano tecniche di rilassamento per ridurre il senso di allerta del cervello prima di andare a letto. Inoltre suggeriscono che i servizi in streaming dovrebbero consentire ai telespettatori di pre-selezionare una durata massima di visione, oltre la quale non andare.
