Scopri la dieta salva umore

Tra gli alimenti con virtù stabilizzanti dell’umore troviamo il pesce azzurro, la frutta secca, le erbe come valeriana e passiflora e verdura e frutta fresca che oltre ad essere ricchi di nutrienti possono essere utili come antidoto contro la depressione e come aiuto per la prevenzione del suicidio. Maurizio Pompili, vice-presidente della International Association for Suicide Prevention (Iasp) e responsabile del Servizio per la Prevenzione del suicidio presso l’azienda ospedaliera Sant’Andrea-Sapienza Università di Roma – ha affermato che dei dati sempre più convincenti che arrivano dalla ricerca evidenziano la funzione di una dieta appropriata anche nella gestione dei disturbi psichiatrici.

Si parlerà, infatti, di questo e di molto altro nella XIV edizione della Giornata mondiale per la prevenzione del suicidio, promossa dall’ Oms, e celebrata a Roma con un evento in programma il 13 e il 14 settembre presso la Sapienza. Il convegno è gratuito ed aperto al pubblico e vi prenderanno parte relatori di prestigio internazionale e professionisti della salute mentale.

Pompili ricorda che secondo una stima parziale nel mondo ogni anno oltre 800 mila persone muoiono a causa del suicidio. Per questo motivo è importantissimo cercare di prevenire tale fenomeno e i risvolti della nutrizione possono dare grandi risultati sulla salute mentale, per questo motivo sono oggi sempre più studiati dalla psichiatria.

Secondo i nutraceutici i nutrienti più promettenti come “alleati dell’umore” e della salute del cervello sono gli omega-3, le vitamine del gruppo B (in particolare acido folico e B12), colina, ferro, zinco, magnesio, S-adenosilmetionina, vitamina D e amminoacidi.

La ricerca ha già dimostrato che in particolare il pesce azzurro e i molluschi hanno virtù stabilizzanti per l’umore e possono ridurre il rischio di depressione e di suicidio. Valeriana e passiflora a concentrazioni importanti aiutano a controllare gli stati d’ansia, mentre la melatonina è un alleato del sonno regolare, e la frutta secca, ricca di magnesio e selenio, è utile per il benessere delle cellule nervose.

Tra i vari progetti europei in corso che collegano la depressione con l’alimentazione, uno studio in particolare mostra che il modello toscano, che prevede di portare in tavola verdure, cereali, zuppe, frutta, pesce, un po’ di carne rossa e moderate quantità di vino, è associato a una riduzione della depressione.

Una delle mission dell’incontro in programma a Roma è quella di curare naturalmente ed è in linea con le raccomandazioni internazionali che puntano sul consumo quotidiano di frutta e verdura per migliorare le condizioni della popolazione che è sempre più colpita da malattie causate da abitudini alimentari errate, da uno stile di vita malsano, e da eccessivo lavoro e stress.
