Mal di schiena? Qual è lo sport migliore?

Uno studio pubblicato dalla rivista Scientific Reports dell’australiana Deakin University ha sfatato il mito che correre possa essere un problema per la schiena.

E’ emerso infatti che coloro che corrono regolarmente, anche per pochi km ogni settimana, hanno una spina dorsale più sana e sono meno a rischio per quanto riguarda ernie del disco rispetto a chi è sedentario.

Alla ricerca hanno partecipato 79 adulti, uomini e donne, due terzi dei quali corridori abituali, che sono stati divisi in tre gruppi sulla base delle distanze percorse (più di 50 chilometri a settimana, tra 20 e 30 e nessun esercizio).

Nei corridori, indipendentemente dalla quantità di chilometri percorsi, i dischi intervertebrali sono risultati più grandi e con una maggior quantità di fluido all’interno rispetto ai sedentari.

“Entrambe queste misure – sottolineano gli autori – sono indice di migliore salute, quindi si può concludere che chi corre ha una spina dorsale più in forma”.
In un altro esperimento i ricercatori hanno studiato dieci persone che camminavano su un tapis roulant, verificando che anche una camminata veloce, a circa sette chilometri all’ora, è sufficiente a garantire dischi più in salute.
